Day 1 NAIROBI – AMBOSELI
NATIONAL PARK 0800 hrs: You will be
picked up from Nairobi City Centre by an AS&H Driver/guide and driven to
Amboseli National Park (250 kms/4 hrs)
The 392 sq. km Amboseli
National Park is one of Kenya’s most popular National Parks in Kenya with its
large herds of resident Elephants and the most beautiful views of the snow
capped 5895m (19,340ft) Mt. Kilimanjaro from any national park or reserve in
east Africa. Mount Kilimanjaro forms the border between Kenya and Tanzania is
the second tallest Mountain, and the tallest free standing mountain, in the
world.
The Park boasts an
abundance of wild animals including elephant, wildebeest, zebra, eland,
waterbuck, lion, leopard, cheetah, giraffe and buffalo. Birdlife includes the
madagascar Squacco Heron. Amboseli is another home
to the Maasai people, famed the world over for their beauty, bravery and
culture.
You will arrive at
Amboseli Serena Lodge www.serenahotels.com in time for lunch.
Amboseli Serena Lodge consists of 96 rooms designed as traditional
Maasai manyattas and decorated with Africana colours and murals by a local
artist. A natural spring and waterhole draws big game, lion, buffalo, giraffe
and wildebeest to some of Africa’s largest elephant herds. The lodge has a
sculpted swimming pool and several jogging trails.
1530 hrs: After lunch and
a siesta at the lodge, enjoy an afternoon game viewing drive. 1800 hrs: Return to lodge
to refresh and enjoy dinner at the lodge’s dining room.

The 9,065
sq km Tsavo West
National Park lies
west
of the Nairobi-Mombasa
road and is home
to lion, leopard,
cheetah, elephant,
the endangered black
rhino which live
in a small, heavily
guarded 70 sq. km
sanctuary, buffalo,
giraffe and plains
game including the
lesser kudu, eland,
waterbuck, zebra,
crocodiles and hippos.
Birdlife includes
Ostrich, Fischer's
Starling and birds
of prey bustards,
sunbirds and weaver-birds
The Park’s habitats
include the lush
forests of Chyulu
Hills, semi arid
plains, riverine
groves and the Shaitani
lava flow. Tsavo
West boasts more
than 60 mammal species
within its borders
and is excellent
for walking with
several nature trails,
even possibly exploring
the Chaimu volcanic
crater. Numerous
rivers flow down
from Mount Kilimanjaro
providing water
for wildlife and
plants of Tsavo
East. Mzima Springs,
a natural spring
water pool with
its underwater viewing
hides for observing
hippos and crocodiles
where the melting
snows of Kilimanjaro
pump over 50 million
gallons of water
out of the ground
each day is certainly
Tsavo West’s undisputed
showcase with is
crystal clear
bounty of water
in an oasis of palms
and fig trees.

Kilaguni lodge was opened in 1962 as the
country’s first luxury lodge inside a game park and has been a well-known name
in Kenyan tourism ever since. It is located on a panoramic spur overlooking the
sweeping Tsavo plains. All its 57-rooms overlook one of Africa’s
last great wildernesses – home to large herds of elephant, buffalo, all the big
cats, and some rare and beautiful antelope, including eland, oryx and lesser
kudu. The rooms also have own balconies with uninterrupted views over the
floodlit waterhole and Mt. Kilimanjaro beyond. There
are five Superior Rooms with large living rooms and spacious modern bathrooms.
The lodge’s restaurant offers sumptuous home-cooked buffets and a la carte
dishes prepared with produce from its own vegetable gardens. Kilguni was recently
taken over by Serena Hotels group.
