  BIKE TREKKING IN KENYA 2007

BIKING & WALKING SAFARIS

Apart from Kenya being an acclaimed Safari & Holiday Destination offering an all-inclusive hinterland to beach experience with beautiful beaches, game parks, plains, deserts, lakes, mountains and colorful and hospitable people, it is also a haven for great outdoors for those that want to optimize their holidays blending leisure with activity. A Kenya holiday is like visiting many countries in one. Active enthusiasts are inspired by the off the beaten track activities and the beauty of the areas visited on the delightful combinations available for naturalists, ornithologists and philanthropist, special interest options for artists, photographers, etc. 

We have a databank of fabulous bike trekking, biking, cycling and walking safaris as follows:
Itinerary (Mt. Kenya Trekking or Biking [extreme])
Itinerary (Cycling On The Loita Plains)
Itinerary (Cycling, Walking and Game Viewing Rift Valley Lakes and Maasai Mara)
Itinerary (The Northern Circuit – Laikipia, Rift Valley Lakes and Maasai Mara)

The areas included in these itineraries give great coverage of Kenya. Using off-roads and forsaken tracks with spectacular views, peace and great staff to ensure you are well looked after, entertained, accommodated, guided and safe at all times. Distances covered in a day can vary from as far as you can or want to ride with up-lift back-up vehicle close at hand or within radio distance.

The tours can be done on their own or as a combination of two or more itineraries. Whilst these itineraries give a good indication of the norm, they can be customized/tailor-made to suit your particular group needs or to substitute/cover other spectacular destinations situated in scenic wilderness areas and beautiful eco-camps including the Aberdares; Rumuruti; Malewa River [Kigio] Wildlife Conservancy; Longonot; Olkirimatian Group Ranch Conservancy [Sampu Camp] in Ngurumani. These preferred spots facilitate in the logistics of our programs and blend well to maintain our safari character. The length of tour can vary from 1 day upwards. Price depends on number of participants. A call to us to clarify details is very welcome.

ACCOMMODATION
During the tour, riders are accommodated in mobile safari camps in K2 style dome tents but depending on your requirement we can supply standup style tents with camp style fittings.

MEALS
Meals are served in a mess area comprising a flysheet, camp chairs and tables.
Meals are traditional English breakfast, lunch & dinner:

Breakfast
Breakfast usually comprises fresh fruit/ cereal/ eggs, sausage and tomato/ toast/ tea & coffee.

Lunch
Soup of the day/ hot dish and accompanying vegetables, cold meats, salad/ fruits/ biscuits. OR
Packed lunch comprising: leg of chicken/ sandwich/ crisps/ biscuits/ bananas or oranges/ juice.

Dinner
Soup of the day/ lamb, beef, fish, poultry [different days] with vegetables and salad/ fruit salad or cake/ tea, coffee.

-vegetarian preferences are also catered for.

GUIDES

Local Kenyan guides accompany all our safaris.
They speak English and have very good working knowledge of the discipline.

BICYCLE GUIDE
He is a national rider, an expert bicycle mechanic and has many years of experience in cycling safaris.

MT. KENYA CLIMBING
Our chief guide is South Africa trained and has a reputation for being one of the elite guides on Mt Kenya.

He has worked for us since inception [1990] as our man on the mountain. 

WALKING
Our naturalist/guides are indigenous members conversant to settings of the areas we visit.

They have good knowledge of flora and fauna including cultural medicines, practices, wildlife recognition including birds and animal spoor tracking,  the dangers of walking in the wilderness and a very deep insight into Africa and it’s awe inspiring mysticism!

MARATHON RUNNING
We work with a famous Kenyan marathon runner – Douglas Wakiihuri in and around the Kajiado area on a private 4000 acre ranch.

WATERSPORTS
We have bonafide professional partners with whom we have good contractual terms that translates to good value for our clients holiday.

TIPPING GUIDELINES
Driver & cycle mechanic/guides
– US$10 each per person per client

All other staff including cooks, mess and tent staff, night watchmen
– US$5 per client x approx 6 staff [approx $50 per client]
